I'd give NO stars if I could.

This is by far one of the worst, if not the very worst, textbook I have ever had the misfortune to spend money on.
On one page I counted 5 typos, 5 sentence fragments, and three sentences that made no sense, as in were circular in logic or just didn't make any grammatical sense.
The whole book is like that.

In addition, they fail to define significant terms and rely excessively on acronyms, which are also either undefined, or defined *once* in the body of a paragraph, two chapters back.

I have noticed that there are instances where the information is just plain wrong, which is unsurprising. If they can't even proofread, I don't expect accuracy.

But the one thing that infuriated me the most was the diarrhea of peripheral information crammed in in place of better explication of actual hematological processes. For example, the fact that a mutation that causes x change in y gene, occurs two thirds of the way down on the long leg of chromosome 14 takes up page space. It is too vague to be useful in a lab setting, and meaningless otherwise. Why include it?! The text is FULL of crap factoids like that. And not enough explanation of actual hematology.

If you want excellent alternatives, the Harmening or Rodak books are much better!

Just for full disclosure, I am a veterinarian, so I have read dozens of clinical texts to compare this with.

The book is brand new and it's an affordable price !! I purchase this book for my Laboratory Med Uni course, the book is very helpful in my learning for Hematology. The text book also contains an access code to also access the textbook online, so you don't have to carry the textbook to uni all the time. Also online has additional quizzes and tests, very helpful when tests and exam is coming up.

LOST 20lbs and they're STILL gone three months later after reading this book!

*NOTE: I was asked to be a test reader for this book as it was being developed and written over the past year. I received this book free from the author in exchange for my review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

I am 48 years old and hate to admit it, but I have had a love affair with food for most of my life. I wasn't exactly grossly overweight - I just constantly carried an extra 20 lbs or so and because I'm only 5'1", they tended to show! With my metabolism recently slowing down with age, the extra pounds were particularly difficult to shift. There had been two or three times in my life when I actually got to my ideal weight.... only to put it all straight back on…. plus an additional couple of pounds.

Needless to say, I was excited to be offered the opportunity to be a test reader as this book/manuscript was being developed since I was hoping it would help me in my situation - and it did!

You see, upon reading this book, I realized that I had fallen in love with food! And now that I’ve written it down in black and white - it sounds ugly!

Throughout my life, diets would always start on Mondays (after I had binged all weekend) and if I messed up during the week (whether it be overeating or missing a workout), I would give up and eat WHATEVER I wanted….. until Monday. Thus the cycle would begin all over again. (Too bad if I tripped up on a Tuesday… because Monday’s a LONG way away!). I loved my food and would wake up in the morning planning to eat the left-over lasagna or Thai curry in the fridge from lunch, or think in advance what I would eat for dinner. I'd plan what I would order at a restaurant on date night well before the night arrived. I enjoyed my food… obviously a little too much!

But the good news is that with the tools Monica has outlined in this book, I have fallen OUT of love with food. Monica’s journaling of how a skinny person thinks and approaches food has been nothing short of mind blowing. For me, it was a case of simply understanding the battle going on in my head and changing my thinking! No money was needed, no diet plan was required, it entailed no one else’s help - all it needed was me and a change in my thought patterns. How amazing is that!

Over the past 10 months I have lost a grand total of 23 lbs AND IT HAS STAYED OFF for over 3 months now. I occasionally hop on the scale and always jump off grinning from ear-to-ear…. and I have that deep down reassurance that it is gone for good. That has NEVER happened before in my life. I'm not even worried that it will return because there has been such a huge shift in my thinking that my love affair with food has finally been conquered - done!

And there have been some HUGE, wonderful side-effects. I feel healthier and lighter. I exercise regularly (because that is simply what a 48 year old needs to do to stay healthy). My confidence has soared and I love everything about the new me - my new weight, my new figure, my new character traits that have been developed, my new thought life…..

My husband is totally intrigued - we have been married nearly 30 years and he knows my history of constant battles with my weight and has observed my occasional weight loss victories, only to witness the return of those pounds I fought so hard to lose. After seeing my weight finally under control and staying constant for over 3 months, he asked me the other day if I could sit down and write him a diet plan. I simply smiled and said, "I never used a diet plan. That's not what the book is about. You need to read it for yourself." (I would not do it justice trying to explain it myself - the author does it best!)

Deep change CAN happen and I am excited to apply her principles not only to food, but to other areas in my life as well. For me, this book was like the "missing manual” which was the key to any REAL life-long change. If you are at a place in your life where you're fed up with contending with constant weight gain or putting it all back on after you've worked so hard to lose it, this book is a MUST for you! I HIGHLY recommend it!

I have long known "what to do" as far as ...

I have long known "what to do" as far as working out and eating well to lose weight. I have had success, but as pounds would creep back on, I felt there was something missing. My relationship with food was still a struggle and I didn't know how to break that until this book. This book brought so much clarity and freedom. It gave me the tools to finally keep that weight off and not forever be obsessed with my weight.

Excellent book and written in such a an easy to digest way:) Definitely a book I would recommend to anyone who has a desire to be free once and for all from food & body image struggles. It teaches you to overcome and lead a life of victory. Very well written with personal stories that are relatable and at the same time offers you practical ways to achieve true freedom. I also love that it is a "skinny" book and doesn't take too long to read, for those who are intimidated by lengthy books. Buy a few extra copies too because once you start reading it, you'll realize you want to gift it to many people in your life. Cheers to being #happyhealthyandfree

Images of a Simpler Time

I am honored to have the copy of this book that my grandfather received for Christmas in 1923 and am thrilled to see that Edgar Guest's works are once again available.
I have long admired the poetry of Edgar Guest for its simplicity. The simple, Victorian charm in his work is illustrated well in poems about everyday occurances such as fishing. His poems cover all aspects of life from holiday celebrations to the loss of a child and each brings a distinct emotion to the printed page. While the language is occaisionally overly syrupy and stilted it amazes me how true is words still are nearly 85 years after they were first published. For poetry fans, Guest is worth reading.

Caelen and Fiona Have Only Two Chapters Together - What The Hey?

In my review on the first book in this series, Caelen's Wife: Book One - A Murmur of Providence (Clan McDunnah Series 1), I complained long and hard about Caelen McDunnah's persona being unrecognizable. In this book, we are reacquainted with our old Buddy Caelen and he's all that he should be. However, a huge problem for me was that he and Fiona had only two chapters together. That's right. They were together in the Prologue and Chapter 1, then had no contact with one another until the last chapter of the book.

I don't get it. Yes, there was continued setting up of the back story - that being yet another horrendous attack on a family of crofters, as Fiona and Caelen separately try to figure out who the villains are, but basically not much of a romance. Unless you want to consider Fiona pining away daily because she rejected Caelen's marriage proposal. That's not to say the story wasn't interesting, but I was looking forward to some romantic time with Caelen and Fiona.

Last, and this is spoilerish so don't read on if you don't want to learn something about Fiona's looks. Remember how Fiona was portrayed in Book #1 relative to her plain looks? It is now revealed that the "not-so-good-looking" comments have all been a scheme set up by her mother who persuaded the family to cooperate, so Fiona wouldn't grow up conceited and evil. Apparently, she grew up with the family continually casting doubts on her beauty. So, does she indeed have a broken nose, an overbite and somewhat stringy hair, or is she a tall, blonde, bonny lass? Who knows? Didn't they have mirrors in those days, or at least the possibility of a look-see in a clear river or lake? Perhaps we'll get a different story in Book #3. I just hope we have more of Caelen and Fiona togetherness.

Lest anyone reading my reviews on this series misunderstand - I'm a huge Suzan Tisdale fan. If you've ever read my reviews on some of her other books, it's evident by the 5 starred reviews I've given them. So far, however, this series has been a disappointment for this fan.

A Whisper of Fate, or Is It?

'A Whisper of Fate' is the second book in the McDunnah Series, and it picks up right where the first one left off. This second book begins with a kiss, and a giggle (from me) as Fiona declares, "Me womanly parts be broken!" You will have to read the book to see why.

Fiona has to make a choice, will she choose Caelen, or her clan. Caelen gets Fiona's answer when awakens and she is no where to be seen. He refuses to let go of the hope that she will so day be his wife. So he sets off to get a assistance from a neighboring clan in helping find out who is responsible for the raids, and deaths on Fiona's land.

This second book was full of action, a little bit of mystery and romance. I found myself laughing out loud in a few scenes. I enjoy a little humor with my romance! If you found yourself a little disappointed when the first in the series ended, this one will more than make up for that.

There are a few questions answered, and a few left unanswered. You will not be disappointed in the ending. I am looking forward to the third book in the series: A Breath of Promise, which will be out on March 24th. I recommend this book to anyone that enjoys historical romance, and a wonderful story.

I did read before purchasing that this story came in three separate books, I didn't think it would matter. It did. If you are interested in buying these, I would suggest that you buy book 1 and book 3. Book 2 is BORING and you really don't need it for the story, waste of time and money. Book 1, A Murmur of Providence is incomplete, leaves you hanging in the air, book 3, A Breath of Promise, finishes the story. I don't mind buying a series of books, when each one stands on it's own and is complete. Never will I buy this type of incomplete stories again. The story line is okay, the characters are okay except the heroine is hot headed and jumps to conclusions. Didn't think she had enough 'smarts' to be chief of a clan.

Didn't help me much

I found this book hard to read and understand. It was a reccomended book for my nursing program, so I bought it. Later I found out that it was availible as a free e-book through my college's library. I sold my edition back. It basically describes each lab test, how it is performed, and how to prep your client. If that is what you are looking for, this book is great for that. I was looking for more of an explanation of why lab values were out of range, and interventions for correcting the abnormal labs... This book is not for that at all. I found a website that helps me tremendously and I currently only use it for my reference.

I think there are more concise lab books out there with quicker reference to what is going on and why. when doing care planning I am not going to do an entire care plan around one lab. If you are looking for a care plan to create off of one lab this is a good book, but if you are looking for quick interventions, and reasons for the lab being out of range this is not your book. It does give a detailed explanation of what is going on with the labs though.

"Two weeks in Eternal Egypt" is a travel memoir, where the author travels to Egypt. The rich and easy narrative style is impressive. The author, who wants to spend some good time with his wife, goes through a lot of unexpected circumstances during his tour in Egypt. Starting from the tour agent to the citizens, everyone seemed intent on getting money from tourists, instead of helping them feel at home. He was tricked at times by local people, but he soon learns how to manage them.

The poverty, the culture and the desperation of the people of Egypt is described in an excellent way. The author takes the readers through all of the Egypt's historical locations with the stories behind each monuments and places. Usually these sort of things doesn't interest me much, but this was like listening to a friend who had gone to some place where you haven't been. You can't help but get amused by some of the details listed about Egypt and get disappointed at some others.

Although I like to travel, I don't get much of an opportunity to do so. These experiences seemed so true and real that I want to be careful and ready, when I someday make the travel myself to Egypt. But, of course, after reading about Egypt from author's point of view, I actually am not pretty sure whether I would want to visit Egypt. I want to go to some place where I can feel pleasant and safe.

Overall, a very good travel memoir. If you are interested in travel or memoirs, then this is definitely recommended.
