About the Author
Virginia McLeod studied architecture in Australia before practising for a number of years in Sydney. She moved to the UK in 1998 to complete an MA in the history and theory of Architecture at the Architectural Association in London. Since then she has worked for a number of private practices in London and was also the editor of The Phaidon Atlas of Contemporary World Architecture. She is the author of Detail in Contemporary Residential Architecture, Detail in Contemporary Landscape Architecture, Detail in Contemporary Kitchen Design and Detail in Contemporary Bathroom Design, all published by Laurence King.

A good source for wood detailing

I purchased this book after deciding to begin a timber-based project in architecture grad school. The text contains quite a few projects with a short description, a few pictures, and a set of details (and occasionally plans/sections) of each. While the book serves as a great inspirational reference for those looking to see how other architects have handled the issue of the timber joint, it is not a technical reference. There isn't much in the way of call-outs or dimensions when referring to the details and objects tend to get lost in the line work.

Pros: Concise, many examples, unique timber joinery, inspiration for how to use timber in contemporary architecture
Cons: Not all of the projects use timber in a structural manner and the details will illustrate that, very little in the way of technical resources.

Good for inspiration. If you're looking for a technical reference, I would suggest the Architect's Studio Companion, but if you're looking for specific examples of timber joints and construction, this text is pretty solid.

Lots of cutting edge contemporary designs are presented, and while it does have plenty of drawings, it doesn't delve as deeply into actual specific connection details as my current research requires, but aside from that it's a very interesting, well presented, compilation of projects.

Illiteracy

This is the worst book I have ever wasted my money on. The author is illiterate, he repeats himself continuously and has no idea of the concept of grammar or punctuation. The book told me nothing I didn't know already and I would like my money back.

This book, if you can call it that, looks like a teenager's poorly written English paper. Grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors are everywhere. Plus, it has a very large typefont and large margins - as if the author was trying to meet a pre-set page goal, without actually writing enough material. If you can get past all the typographical and editing errors, the content itself is just as flawed. Outdated comments, old wives' tales, and common-knowledge sayings make up the bulk of the work. There is little that is new, insightful, helpful or original. I would not recommend this book to anyone - unless you need a 'bad" example to use in a book-editing class. That might be its only useful purpose.

Horrible book

I agree with the other reviewer. The author is illiterate and has no idea of how to train or raise a dog. It sounds like he never even owned a dog. Punctuation seems to be nonexistent with numerous run-on sentences. Two chapters are the same and the rest of the book is nothing but nonsense. A complete waste of money and time.

A Horrible Book if you could call it that!

This book is a photocopy of another smaller book and a blurry bad reproduction at that. My advise is there are better books out there, steer clear from this very rough ashlar!

I'm definitely biased as Katie was one of my closest friends and was to be my maid of honor five months before she passed. Unfortunately she wasn't able to travel and didn't make it in physical form but I know she was there in Spirit. I love that Marilyn wrote this book as I believe it gives many of us more closure. I know that I didn't have each piece of her illness together. We don't have the answers and Katie's passing was a tragedy in our lives but our lives are definitely better because of her. I miss her to this day as I could share anything without judgement as she could as well.

I know the author slightly, and knew she had lost a daughter. But she always has such a beautiful, peaceful smile. I was eager to discover why. This is the story of her beautiful daughter, her tragic loss, and a mother making the choice, in the midst of her heartbreak, to trust in the comfort and promises of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Best one yet

I have to give it to Tina. Every time I read her newest release I say to myself "this one is the best or even the hottest one yet." But hot damn Tina, I don't think this could have gotten any hotter. I loved Luther's Return. I thought this was the perfect story for Luther.

Katie omg I just love her. She grew up being wronged. She was a Hollywood star with no family. Found her family in Yvette's Haven. Found herself working as drama teacher. Something goes haywire and she finds herself with Scanguards enemy. Will she be able to work with him? Or will everything go wrong? Read Luther's Return today and find out.

Luther I have to admit I didn't think any Scanguard could beat Amuary's Hellion. But after reading this, yeah I was so wrong. Luther is the type of man a girl dreams about. After being free he falls into a situation where his help his needed by Katie. He has always brought his mind back to his past. Will his past push him away from Katy or will his push his way past it and love again?

I so recommend you check out Luther's Return. It has the action, the love, and the oh snap I did not see that coming. Tina Folsom is just amazing.

I've fallen in love with a villain!

Luther has been held in vampire prison for twenty years. He has done his time for trying to kill Sampson and Amaury's mates and while at the time he thought that his actions were justified, he regrets that he didn't trust his friends. The first thing he does once he's released is head to San Francisco to apologize so that he will be able to get on with his life. He knows that he failed his mate when it mattered most and that it was no one's fault but his own that she died and he needs for them to know that. Things don't always go as planned though. Luther arrives the same night that Sampson's daughter disappears and the Scanguards are positive that Luther has played a part in her disappearance. Will hatred and fear make them realize that he's telling the truth or will fear of what happened in the past blind them to what's happening now?

Katie Fairfax has had lifetime of problems. She's tried to put them all behind her when she left Hollywood and she now teaches drama at a college in San Francisco. When a last minute change in the lineup for the play that she's both directing and playing a part in leads to one of her pupils disappearing, she knows that it's her fault and she'll do anything to help find her, even if that means teaming up with the enemy.

This story takes place twenty years after Amaury's Hellion and boy have a lot things changed within the Scanguards families. If you've read the other stories, you know who has married whom but here you find out just how large those families have become. Isabella is of course the oldest hybrid child and is now twenty but almost all of our favorite characters now have children as well and most have more than one. While it was a little difficult to remember who belongs to who since there are so many children now, the family tree at the front of the book helps with sorting it all out. I'm in hopes that these children, many on the verge of adulthood, will be in future books and that we can continue to watch them grow and see where their lives will lead.

Now back to Luther and Katie's story. I have fallen in love with a villain. From his very first meeting with Katie, you will remember her from book 4 as she is Haven and Wesley's little sister, Luther feels drawn to her just as much as Katie feels drawn to him. Luther can't say seem to say no to her and finds himself right back where he started from, back in the vampire prison. This book was amazing and has long been one of my favorite series. Tina is an amazing writer that does a great job in linking each book to the others so that you can honestly pick up reading anywhere in the series and be fine but trust me when I say that if you haven't read this series, it's best to just start at the beginning because you are in for one hell of ride!

Sweet Mercy Atonement

Everyone deserves redemption. When we first had a glimpse of Luther in the past I knew he had his reasons. I'm glad he wasn't killed also glad he wanted to have atonement for what he did.

It was strange however going into 20 years after the last book release but so easy to understand. I think I would love to see a book/books on each of our Scansguards characters make them little novellas to see what they went through. Maya figured out how to give Yvette her dream of having children. I'm fascinated with Grayson because despite who's your favorite it's always been Samson for me. Now its a tie with Luther. So if Grayson gets a book to and if he is like his father well damn chit will hit the fan lol.

Tina's writing is amazing in this series I cried and felt for Luther and understood why he did what he caused I don't condone it but it still makes you see why. And let's face it we are in a world with Vampires and the male or female are protective of their mates. Other books I've read in paranormal vamps aren't suppose to have a conscious and I love that we get that with Tina's series. I was thinking with Katie/Kimberly she would be a lot older because she no longer held her witch powers but Tina had explained how she still aged slowly despite not having them, she's still a witch.

Folsom just can't go wrong with this series. There's four authors I follow constantly just waiting for the next one to come out and hoping they won't end. And apparently we will get more with Blake's Pursuit. No disappointments in this book for me. Wish I could give it more than 5 stars it's worth so much more.

Excellent Resource for Using PatternMaker Software

The other reviewer is right. This is a manual only, as stated in the title. Jennifer Smith was PatternMaker's educator for many years. She taught and created workshops on Patternmaker around the country. This manual contains ALL the handouts for those workshops. Each page has step by step instructions with pictures. Easy to read and follow. And the workshops were a lot more than $16.

Excellent manual for PatternMaker Software

This is an excellent manual for PatternMaker Software.
Through real projects, the author explains the commands needed to make custom made patterns in this particular software. Step by step instructions and pictures to make the sloper, to adjust it, to correct the pattern in this software. In the next chapters she uses and explains all necessary commands and other useful techniques to create custom made patterns. Very easy to read and fallow, much easier than just using the help in the software. By the end, the user of this software will learn which command to choose and how to use it.

A good intro

Unfortunately, I wanted this book to be about two hundred pages longer. It's a good, solid, intro into the Patternmaker language, but without much previous patternmaking or CAD experience I needed/wanted more than the author could provide. Recommended for those with at least a high comfort level with CAD to wrap your head around how to make the basic patterns do what you wanted.

About the Author
Lori Norton-Meier is the coauthor of the Heinemann titles Negotiating Science and Questions, Claims, and Evidence. She has been intrigued by children's stories since her time as a kindergarten teacher. She is currently an assistant professor at Iowa State University in Literacy Education. Her areas of interest include early childhood literacy, science literacy, family literacy, and media literacy.

Brian Hand is the coauthor of the Heinemann titles Negotiating Science and Questions, Claims, and Evidence. He is a science educator at the University of Iowa who is involved in research on student learning and how we use language in science classrooms to help the learning process. Brian was a school teacher for eleven years before moving into the university system, where he has published in a wide range of journals.

Lynn Hockenberry is the coauthor of the Heinemann title Questions, Claims, and Evidence (2008). A twenty-four teaching veteran, she implemented the Science Writing Heuristic approach in Questions, Claims, and Evidence and knows the power that linking science with literacy has to engage students. Now a reading consultant with Loess Hills AEA 13, she provides literacy professional development to K - 12 teachers.

Kim Wise is the coauthor of the Heinemann title Questions, Claims, and Evidence (2008). A former elementary and middle school teacher, she has been involved in science education for fifteen years. Currently a science consultant for Loess Hills AEA 13 in Southwest Iowa, Kim provides professional development in the areas of science curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
