What a great tool for aspiring chefs. This book combines practical information with life inspiration. Chef Timothy Tucker's life's work is to help people learn to cook delicious real food in professional kitchens — his book is crystal clear about everything an aspiring chef will need to know to make a difference in the kitchen and in life.
While the book is written for adults, I'll be using this book as a textbook in the teaching kitchen at my Montessori school. By demystifying the process of preparing delicious and healthy food, Chef Timothy has given teachers, students and inspiring chefs a great gift.

Practical guide for beginning chefs!
Designed as a textbook to be used in a culinary training program for beginning chefs, "Destination Chef" orients emerging food-service professionals to the essential skills and understandings of the profession. Chef Tucker's years of experience in both the food-service industry and in teaching is evident throughout the thoughtful lessons which are simple to follow and feature engaging visuals and charts.
The book addresses the expected topics of kitchen equipment, food basics, and recipes then moves beyond to offer information on typically less discussed but equally important topics such as menu design, food ordering, working with vendors and farmers, and how to determine the total cost of an individual meal on the menu.
What I found particularly valuable about 'Destination Chef' is the wealth of information it provides on professional skills. Other books and resources tend to be too vague or fall short but not this book! "Destination Chef" delivers what it's title promises and walks the student through resume and cover letter writing, interview prep, and salary negotiation. The emphasis is not just on food service skills but getting the job AND being successful in your position.
