a few helpful tips

Not as detailed as I'd like, but since this is the first BMW I have owned, some things/tips are a real time saver. I replaced my alternator, and the instructions on removing the radiator fan were very helpful-(like the fact that they were right hand threads, clockwise turning to remove the fan, the size of the nut I had to turn (I had to go by a new open-end wrench to do this) or the fact that the fan and the plastic fan surround shroud had to be removed simultaneously because there isn't enough room to remove them seperatly, etc.) Other things weren't that helpful. Many places in the manual would read "multiple locations for fuse panels were used in these vehicles, or "diffferent types of belt tensioners are used", or "Different years used different parts" wasn't what I wanted to know!

WOW!! What can I say but if you own a bmw Z3, and intend to do any work on it, this is a must buy.

99% of what you need (at least for a shade tree mechanic) is covered here. I had two issues, a failure in my airbag system and I needed to replace the brakes on my car.
While the book cautioned about working on airbag issues, it did give me enough info to repair the problem once I diagnosed it.
It was very complete in the instructions on swapping brake pads and disks.
Overall, one of the best service manuals I've purchased in almost 40 years of wrenching my cars.

Tremendous resource

Like most things in the 21st century I wish this didn't cost so much. But if that really mattered the 14-year old Z3, which has been sitting in my garage since early December is probably a bad idea. On the other hand it won't take much gleaned from this valuable source of information to pay for the book. The authors are pretty clear about shade tree mechanics not getting in over their heads, but the specs and directions are very clear and a few simple repairs done at home rather than at your neighborhood BMW dealership will save you a pile. Get it.
