About the Author
Joseph teaches mathematics at Palo Alto College, in San Antonio, Texas. After retiring from the Navy as a Commander, he taught physics, technology, and mathematics at Southwest High School in San Antonio. He also taught at Park University and the University of Texas at San Antonio. The son of an Army First Sergeant, Joseph was born at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. He traveled throughout his youth as an Army dependent, attending junior high school in Germany and high school in Taiwan. He lived with his mother and sister in Minnesota near his grandparents whenever his father was assigned unaccompanied overseas tours. During his senior year at the University of Houston, Joseph entered the Navy. Following graduation he completed Officer Candidate School in Newport Rhode Island. A Surface Warfare Officer, his first ship was the destroyer USS Orleck, where he was assigned duty as the Main Propulsion Assistant. His last ship was the Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate, USS Estocin, which he commanded. He also served on the USS Ford as Engineer Officer and the USS Duncan as Executive Officer. Ashore he specialized in the training and management of naval reservists, serving in Wisconsin, Missouri, Louisiana, and Texas. Joseph has visited every state and several countries. He earned Master of Science Degrees from the University of Southern California and the University of Texas at San Antonio. His Bachelor's degree is from the University of Houston. During their senior year at the University Of Houston, Joseph and Petra were married. She traveled with him throughout his Navy career. After living in seventeen different homes throughout the country, they put down roots on a small ranch in South Texas where they help rear grandchildren, and raise Angus cattle.
